Biography
Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Lives & works in Amherst, Massachusettes
Sofia Monasterio studied visual arts at New Mexico School for the Arts and the Oxbow School, in Napa, California. Monasterio works in conceptual and abstract art to illustrate complex psychological concepts, with sculptural installation, paintings, and photography. Her work has been exhibited in over 12 group art exhibitions in the past six years with New Mexico School for the Arts and the Oxbow School and has been awarded with scholarships to the Oxbow School, The New School, Clark University, University of Puget Sound, and earned the Humanitas Award from Hampshire College. After pursuing a degree in Sociology and Anthropology at University of Puget Sound, she transferred to Hampshire College to study Clinical Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology, and Conceptual visual arts. Monasterio plans to move on to earn her PhD in Clinical Psychology, with the intention of continuing her conceptual artwork to communicate her research in psychology as well as other topics.
